The vibrant city of Abeokuta in Ogun State has played host to the much-anticipated Egbaliganza, a significant highlight of the annual Lisabi Festival, dedicated to celebrating the rich history, culture, innovation, creativity, craftsmanship, fashion, and identity of the Egba people.
Egbaliganza, a fashion extravaganza, has quickly become an essential feature of the festival, attracting thousands of Egba descendants from across the globe.
This year’s event saw the inclusion of a spectacular fashion show that showcased the cultural brilliance of the Egba people, with notable designers such as the renowned Ugo Monye, Amdiddy and Micheal Oladepo Bespoke being shortlisted to present their collections for the 2025 edition.
Their designs, embodying the creativity and flair of Egba culture, were a testament to the ever-evolving fashion landscape in the region.
As part of the grand finale of the Lisabi Festival, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric. In a unique twist, no shops were permitted to open on this day as the entire city came together for the grand procession.
A massive crowd gathered at the historic Ake Palace, where descendants, unions and associations paraded before the king in a show of unity, pride, and tradition.
The highlight of the procession was the regal “Balogun Woro” ceremony, where participants, dressed in their finest attire, paraded on horseback, paying homage to their heritage and celebrating their shared identity.
This event not only honored the past but also embraced the present and future of the Egba community.
Egbaliganza is more than just a fashion event; it is a powerful reminder of the Egba people’s enduring legacy, creative ingenuity, and the strength of their unity. As the festival continues to grow in significance, it remains a symbol of cultural pride and a beacon for the future of the Egba identity.
